Are you an Italian citizen residing outside of Italy?
Familiarise yourself with AIRE, the Register for Italians living abroad (Anagrafe Italiani Residenti all’Estero).
As an Italian citizen, even if you hold a dual citizenship, registering with AIRE through your nearest Italian Consulate is mandatory.
This registration is required before you can apply for or renew your passport if you live outside Italy.
The process is done online through a central website called Fastit or Secoli and it involves three simple steps:
1. Create a user account and waiting for it to be validated by the Consulate
2. Upload your AIRE details and supporting documents
3. Sign and re-upload the generated form.
You will need a proof of address as well as the copy of your identity document.
The Consulate may request you to send further documents at a later stage to complete your registration.
